Come Follow Me: Matthew 8–9; Mark 2–5 (March 4-10)

I hope you are having a wonderful week!  I have some fun ideas that work great for families and primary classes.  You can find all of the free downloads at the end of this post.  This week covers Matthew 8-9 and Mark 2-5.

Miracles of Jesus.  There are a ton of ideas, questions, and videos in the primary manual for this topic.  I decided to create a page for each miracle mentioned in these chapters (I & F)  Here are a few ways to use these pages.  There are quite a few so print just the pages you need.
1. Print the pages and have each family member draw a picture for one of the miracles.  Then each person can briefly share the story, their picture, and any thoughts that came to them. It would be awesome to combine the pages to make a book.
2. Make a mini set for each family member or primary child.  Print 2 or 4 to a page (if you need help with this let me know).  Each person can draw or use the pages to take notes or write down thoughts that come to them. I did not make the mini books this time because you may not need all of the pages.  This will give you flexibility to print the pages you want in the size you want.
3.  Pick one or 2 miracles a day to discuss.  As you read the scriptures or tell the story let your children draw what is happening.
Jesus Calms the Storm:
I found this great picture scripture story in the friend (find it here)  I thought it would be fun to print and cut around the pictures.  Glue a magnet to the back or to Popsicle stick to make puppets.

Another idea is to build a boat with blankets, boxes, pillows, etc.  Sit in the boat while you tell the story or watch watch this video.

This rocking boat craft from Red Ted Art would be awesome to make. (found here)

Here is a great article if you have any older children.  I'm going to share this with my 10 and 13 year old. I love the quote at the end.

I found this cute story in the Friend.  I have a little one that is afraid of the dark so I thought this would be a great lesson for her.  I created an interactive story board for this story and there is a printer friendly version of the story included in the download as well.
Print the story, and 2 pages of pictures.  Cut out all the small pictures but leave the page with the colored border as is.
Place the main page (with the border) on the floor.  As you get to each paragraph there will be a new picture to add or change on your main page.  Check the samples below for set up help.

There was an idea in the primary manual to have a picture of Jesus and cover it with clouds.  The idea was to have the children draw pictures of trial that some may face and talk about ways you can help that person.  As you pull off the cloud it reveals the picture of the Savior.  I included blank clouds if you would like to do this.  For my little ones I decided to change it just a little bit and talk about some emotions that can feel like a storm in our life.  Before our lesson I will have the clouds covering the picture of Jesus.  Each cloud has an emotion written on it.  Have some one pull a cloud off the page.  Talk about what it means and some times you may feel that way.  Example: sad-you miss your mom or someone hurt your feelings.  As you pull the clouds off you will see the picture of Jesus and the scripture "Peace, be still.'  Testify that Jesus can calm the storms in our lives.

The last topic I want to cover is that Jesus loved everyone.  He blessed those that did not feel worthy, those that were turned away from society, and all who came to him for help.  I love the video “Gordon Hinckley: Lessons I Learned as a Boy” you can find it in the primary manual.  This would be a great one to watch and think of some ways you can serve this week.  If you haven't used the kindness bingo activity it might be a fun one to try or some ideas in this post.

I hope you find something that works for your family or primary class.  I'd love to know what you do this week.  As always if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

  6. I have loved your ideas, they have really helped me change the way I teach my boys the gospel! I was wondering if there is a way to get the Miracles of Jesus pages smaller like 4 to a page?
