Science Camp Activity Days

This was a really fun activity we did for activity days but it also works for any type of science camp or fun family or class activity.  It covers the requirements on education.  I will admit this one did take a little bit of set up time but it was so much fun.  Here's my quick outline and on the bottom my two outdoor experiments we did.
The coloring pages I used can be found here. The video clip can be found here.  The handout is included in the download at the end of this post.

I had all of the science centers set up in the kitchen.  We had 4 stations.  Each station had the supplies and a cute card like this with the instruction.  (Included in the download-print, cut the cards apart, and fold in half).  This worked really well so the girls could do the experiment more independently and not wait on me to explain each one.  Also they worked in groups of two or three and this was much better then trying to do all of them together.  We had three groups and they rotated to the next station as they finished.

We made applesauce slime

erupting lemons

skittles experiment

colorful baking soda

Outside as a group we made exploding bags
and the famous diet coke and mentos experiment.  I did buy this to make it easier.

Book of Mormon Match Game (Free Printable)

I have a fun match game that would be perfect to play during General Conference.  You can find the FREE download below.   Print on cardstock and cut the cards apart. Take turns finding the match to your favorite Book of Mormon heroes.

I created this set originally for Activity Days and will be sharing all the details soon!

St. Patrick's Day Activity Days

We just had Activity Days and we did a fun St. Patrick's Day treasure hunt and worked on passing off one of the requirements in their Faith in God books.  We talked about baptismal covenants and how we renew them each week when we take the sacrament. It fits well with Learning and Living the Gospel #1.  They took home this cute bookmark that they can place in their scriptures and review during the sacrament (in the download at the end of this post)

A couple of years ago we did a treasure hunt for St. Patrick's day and it was a big hit.  Most of my girls are new so we went with the same concept but a different topic and tweaked the idea a bit.

Here's a bit of my set up. A lot of this came from the Dating Diva's blog.  You'll want to head over there and print the clues, task cards, and activities-its the 2nd download link.  I did adjust a couple of the activities to work with activity days (theirs is for a family).  So I did NOT print the last 2 pages of their download.  I also used gold coins from the dollar store so I did not print the coin page either.  If you are at a church you will need to create your own clues.  We have activity days at my house so I was able to use the ones provided.  In my other activity I do have clue cards for the church and blank ones if you would like to create your own.

In the download below I included
1. "I'm lucky to have you cards"- in place of the just a note cards.  I had the girls pick a person and write why they were lucky to have them.  Most of my girls wrote a note to each other :)
2. Find 5 things that are green.  Theirs is more specific and didn't quite work for our group.
3. Don't eat Pete game.  They have one included but I already had one made so I just used mine :)

I still used their task cards for these activities.  I love the cute rhymes.

I placed the clues, task cards, items for each task and a puzzle piece in each bag.  The puzzle piece in the page below cut into pieces.  Have the girls save these pieces for later.  As they find each clue bag they need to complete the task before they move on and find the next clue.  This was a really fun addition to the game.  It does take a while so plan accordingly.

For our treasure at the end I had a bucket of starburst but skittles or chocolate coins would be cute!

After the treasure hunt we put the puzzle together and discussed baptismal covenants and how they renew them each week during sacrament.  We ran out of time but I planned to play the match game found in this post.  Instead of using the "promise" cards we were going to place the matches under the different sides of the rainbow puzzle.

For our treat we made brownie parfaits found here.

We finished off making rainbow bracelets.

Articles of Faith Jeopardy

We have been working on our Articles of Faith in Activity Days.  This was a really fun game to review the ones they know and work on the ones they still need to learn.  I have to saw I was impressed with how much they knew.  I had some tough questions and they knew them! And who doesn't love Jeopardy?!?!
I tried to make everything easy and color coordinated for a quick set up.  Print and cut.  Glue the questions to the back of the number.  Each question card has 100-500 written in the corner so you know which number to glue it to.  Also there is an answer key for quick reference.

Here's a look at each category:

What's missing: Each question will have a list and one of the words is missing.
I am showing you this one because I accidentally left out 2 words-apostles & teachers.  The others will only have 1 word missing.

They can give you the numbers or just say the sentence.  So this one would be  3, 2, 1, 4
Just like it sounds.  Show them the card and have them recite the verse.

Here's the size of board I used.  It will also fit (if everything is pushed really close) on a white poster board but you will not have room for the title.  Or you can use magnets on the white board or simply put them on the floor.

General Conference Bingo, Match Game, and Mini Notebook

General Conference is a few days so I wanted to get this to you in time for you to use it! I'll add extra pictures of the finished product late. This post is going to be short and sweet but full of some fun ideas.  I actually put this together for activity days (find additional ideas for this at the end of the post) but will also be using it for my family.  As always if you have any trouble downloading one of the files please let me know!

First up is General Conference Bingo.  There are a lot of cute ones available (check pinterest) but I can't help myself when it comes to making something with adorable graphics.   And Melonheadz's graphics can't be beat.  There are 6 different board and 2 sizes.  If you need more boards let me know and I'll try and put a few more variations together.  This can be played 2 ways: 1. While watching Conference listen for the words on the board.  2. Use the cute calling cards below and play over and over.

Download here:

Calling Cards OR Match Game:  Print one set to use with the Bingo game above or Print 2 of each page on cardstock and use as a match game.

Mini Notebook.  There is one page per apostle & the Prophet.  A cover page, a question and answer page (w/ quote for the youth), and 3 extra blank pages.  Print (preferably on cardstock), cut the pages apart, hole punch the top corner, and add a book ring.  These can also be used after conference as you re-read and study the talks.

You can find more general conference ideas here.

If using this for activity days we are also going to talk about the Holy Ghost and Personal Revelation.  We are going to use this activity Share some of the quotes and play the game.

Put together the Conference Notebook and Play Bingo if time.

We also plan to make these fun Monster Mash Brownies found here.

and I'm being super ambitious and we'll be making these cute black cats out of socks found here.

I'll be sending home these Faith in God Task Cards.  Have the girls let you know if they finished at the next activity.

"Be the nice kid" free printable

This post contains affiliate links. That means if you use my link, I make a small commission at no extra cost to you. As always, thank you for your support.

I remember reading this quote a few months ago and it actually made me a little teary eyed.  I remember thing "YES!  This is what I want to teach my kids."   Be the nice kid, do the right thing, other peoples success doesn't take away from yours, be happy with being YOU!.  Fast forward to a few days ago, my kids were getting ready for there first day of school.  Every year I like to have a little motto for the school year.  The night before school starts we have a fun back to school dinner and I share the new motto for the year.  As I was trying to think of something this quote popped into my head. It's perfect.

I created this cute print to display in our home where we can see it every day.  You can download this free print below.  Print at home or send it to your favorite print shop.  Please note this is for personal use only.

To continue with this theme you can read the book Wonder or watch the movie.  I just finished this book and I can't stop thinking about it.  It is so well written with amazing characters you can't help but fall in love with.  One piece of advice...Grab a tissue :)  It's now on my kids "mom's required reading list" haha.  Now looking forward to watching the movie asap!

Or check out this post.  It was for a church activity (activity days) but there are some great ideas and my favorite you-tube video that you can use at home that promotes kindness and self esteem.

Be-You-tiful Activity days

With school starting again and quite of a few of them entering middle school or in their last year of elementary school I knew I wanted to focus on positive self esteem and also building up other.    I love the phrases "be-you-tiful" and "be your own kind of beautiful."    That's the direction I took this activity and we also tied it into the 13th article of faith.  It can be used to pass of the first activity under preparing for young womens.

To start I followed some of the discussion from this activity (it fits in with this theme perfect and gave me the idea for the rest of this activity-her activities for this theme are really cute too).  We discussed what they think it means to be beautiful and then moved in to the question "how does knowing you are a daughter of God change the way you see beauty or you see yourself?"  From here we went over some of the attributes mentioned in the 13th article of faith and some ways we can "seek after" these things.  There is a great quote that ties this in well in the link mentioned above.

After our discussion I showed the girls this video.  (If you are using this in an activity days setting I would suggest checking with someone to make sure they are okay with you showing it just because it's not a church video).  I remember the first time I saw it on facebook I had tears running down my face.  She is amazing and great example.  It fit in perfectly with loving and accepting yourself, being positive, seeinging your own beauty, and its really what's on the inside that makes a person beautiful.  It is also a great way to lead into the topic of being kind to others and seeing their beauty.  The girls were zoned in and grasped what I was trying to teach them.

I wanted to show this clip below but our church's internet wouldn't let me open it.  I was sad.  I think it will now be a family night lesson :)  It fits perfect.  I hoped to use at the end but it is a great option to open with as well.  For this age group I planned to show until about minute 2:06is.  The rest is amazing for older girls.

After we taped a piece of paper to the girls backs. We had them go around the room and write a compliment on everyone's paper.  It could be something they admired, thought they were good at, etc. The girls loved this activity and really liked seeing what others wrote about them.  With this age group you may want to give them a few ideas before you set them loose.
We then gave them this worksheet below to fill in and color.  They filled in the "me" letters with the compliments from their friends and I asked them to add a few thing they liked about themselves or thought they were good at. (idea from here.  I ended up making my own page to add "I am")   Download your worksheet here.  I printed them on cardstock.

Our final project was painting a frame to hold the cute printable I found here.  To size I saved to my computer and opened into word.  I was then able to size it fit the frame and print multiples on one sheet.  The frames were $.97 from walmart. Every frame turned out bright and colorful but different.

I wasn't sure how this activity would go.  It wasn't elaborate and there was a little more discussion then I normally do but I was very impressed how involved the girls were in each part of the activity. As a mom of 3 girls (2 that are getting older) this is something I worry about.  I hope they always can see their potential and that they are their own person and that's what makes them special and beautiful.

Mother's day Flowers and Gift Tag

Here's a cute Mother's Day Craft that is easy enough for toddler to help or perfect for older kids to create by themselves.  This is perfect for any mom or grandma. We made this last week during activity days and they girls had so much fun.  In the center of theirs they wrote something they love about their mom.
 You need:
Scrapbook paper, paper straws, tape (we used washi tape), glue, scissors, mason jar (pint size), hole punch, circle punch optional (2") and some ribbon or jute to tie the tag.

Print out your Flower template (here) . Trace on the back of your scrapbook paper and cut it out.  We used the large flower but I included a few different sizes just in case.

Download Flowers here

Use a punch or cut out a circle for the center.  Write something you love about your mom on the circle and glue it on.
Tape the straw to the back of your flower.  It actually worked best if you put the tape at the top of your straw.
Cut out your tag (at the bottom of this post) , hole punch the top, and tie to your jar.  I added a strip of paper around the jar.
The flowers are a little large and heavy so they twist around a little.  If it bugs you, you can always add some candy or something to the jar to stabilize them.

They turned out so cute and I'm sure any mom or grandma would love them.
