My big project

Its that time of year again when I go crazy and have the urge to clean and throw everything in my house in the garbage.  I've tried so many different ways to organize my house and its still a mess. Seriously its amazing how fast a room is destroyed in this house.

So I am back at it again and this time I am going through every room and item in my house.  I'm one week in and have over 15 bags ready to donate or have been tossed in the trash and I am just getting started!  It feels so good and the rooms I've done are actually staying clean (or can be picked up in just a few minutes...I have 4 kids so that is a big deal)!

So why am I telling you this?  Well I thought many of you may be in a similar situation and ready to declutter and organize your house too. Over the next few weeks (or months) I'll be sharing some before and after pictures with you as well as organizing tips, decluttering ideas, and wherever this journey takes me.  Hopefully it will give you a few ideas :)  Watch for those posts and please share your tips and suggests too!

Also if you are interested here's the system I'm using.  This is my favorite book! (There is now an updated version link at the end of this post)
This book is perfect for those that cleaning and organizing do not come naturally.  Here's how it works...you identify the problem areas, figure out why its not working, and then change your house to fit your behavior.  It is awesome!  She shares great ideas to organize and set up each space in your house. This system clicked for me.
I've had this book for a while and have tried it on spots in my house like the toy closet and my baking cupboard (this was a couple of years ago).  They still look just as good as the day I organized them.  So I can tell you it works and I'm now ready to tackle the rest of my house!

It still looks like this...most days!

I am also using some of the ideas in this book too.

I am not fully implementing this method but I found it has helped a lot with decluttering . The idea is to only keep items you really love.  It has changed my mindset and has helped me get rid of a ton of items I normally would have kept.  It takes some of the guilt out of throwing things away (someone gave it to me, it still has the tags on it, I might need it someday).

I'm really excited to continue this project.  Can you believe I'm excited to clean and organize?  Seeing the transformation of each area has made it worth it.
