Come Follow Me: Mosiah 1-3

*Originally posted in 2020
I hope you are all having a wonderful Easter.  I have some really fun ideas to go with this week's Come Follow Me lesson.  We are covering Mosiah 1-3. I followed the Primary manual pretty closely this week in fact I loved all of the ideas and went a little crazy making printables for almost all of the activities in the manual.  If you aren't quite sure how to use one of the activities that might help.

There are tons of ideas this week!  There is also a second page with some ideas for serving during this time of social distancing.  I asked for some ideas on my facebook page a couple days and the answers were so great!  I included those along with a couple of others.  If you have some ideas please leave them in the comments for others to see :)
On the additional information page I also included the activity from the Come Follow Me primary manual that goes with these recipe cards. It's the very last activity in the manual and it invites the children to use Mosiah 3:19 to come up with a recipe to become like the Savior.  I thought it would be so fun to bake something together and then do this activity.
This one just a simple fill in the blank.  Print and you are ready to go.  \
King Benjamin taught us a lot about service.  The next several activities go with that theme (you can also use the search bar on my website and it will pull up more ideas).

The first idea I had was to create a poster or jar to document the service we provide to our families and others through out the week.  The Warm Fuzzies (and this idea) comes from a talk by President Monson called What Have I done for Someone today?  I plan to show this video clip  or this one is a clip from Conference.  The idea is to place a warm fuzzie (pom pom) in the jar when you provide an act of service.  Once our jar is full we are going to do a special activity as a family-probably a movie night or take out :)  I did include two label options.
Another idea is to print on of these posters and color in a heart or write down the service you did inside each heart.  There is an option for family or individual.  Same idea once its full plan a special surprise or activity to celebrate your accomplishment.  Third printable is inspired by the talk mentioned above.  This one is more of a journal page.
Here are a couple more printables-the I can serve ones are good for brainstorming ways to to serve or it can be used as a journal page.  There is plenty of space to write or draw your answers.  The helping hands comes from the primary manual.  The idea is to trace your hands and share a way you can serve your family.
The primary manual suggests thinking of ways you can serve your family and sing when we're helping we're happy.  I wanted to build on this a little and talk about ways we can serve different people.  Roll the dice and thing of a person and how you can serve them.  I tried to make most of them more general so you can play several times.  Use these just for a discussion or add in the song.

Another idea in the manual was to memorize this part of Mosiah 2:17.  There is a basic, one that can be colored or traced, and then one that is more for display.
As you tell the story have your children illustrate what is happening.  Draw the tower, the tents, the people gathering, etc.  I did include printable King Benjamins that they can glue on their picture if they do not want to draw him.
This idea is similar to the one in the manual but I am going to use it more as review.  My kids are going to take turns pretending to be King Benjamin (wear the crown and stand on a tower-probably a chair) and share a few things they learned about service during the week and share a few ways they served.

I saw this question in the Individual and Family manual and knew I wanted to discuss it during our scripture study.  They can write or draw their answer.

Mosiah 2:19–25 we learn that all blessings come from Heavenly Father.  My daughter has been asking to play charades so that is one thing we are going to do.  We'll think of something we are grateful for and act it out (maybe draw it) I also included some pages to use as a gratitude journal.  Over the last few weeks I have been trying to focus on being grateful and finding beauty and joy each day.  I had the thought a few times that we should start gratitude journals as part of our writing lesson and after reading through this lesson I knew this would be the perfect time to start.
Cut and paste activity.  Read the verse and match the picture.
Last idea is more of a fun challenge but will keep the scriptures in your child's mind as they work.  These are building challenges.  I like to hang them up as inspiration.  Sometimes I give them certain items to use and other times I let them use whatever they can find.  For smaller creating there are printable King Benjamins that will stand.
That's all for this week.  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.  Also share your ideas for service in the comments...I love hearing your ideas!  Have a wonderful Easter and week!

General Conference Activities

Good Morning! Can you believe it's Conference weekend?!?  This is such a special way to spend Easter weekend.  I wanted to give a HUGE thank you to my kind friend that generously offers her time to translate all my activities into German. I couldn't do this without her and she helped me create some of the activities in this packet.  She is truly amazing.

While I LOVE General Conference it can be a little difficult to listen when you have young kids in your home.  I am hoping this new Conference Activity pack will help you have a few minutes to listen as your children are happily entertained and maybe even listening too.  I've included 18 activities that are easy to print and play.  I also like to pull out some quiet games, puzzles, and art supplies.

In addition to this activity packet I have tons of other ideas on my website from past General Conferences or any of the Come Follow Me activities are perfect! I hope you have a wonderful Conference weekend and Happy Easter!

Come Follow Me: Easter Ideas (March 30-April 12)

I am sorry this post is so late.  I planned on using much of the same activities I used last year but as I read through the primary manual I knew I wanted to add a few more things.

I loved how much the lesson focused on the theme Jesus Christ took upon Himself my sins, pains, and sicknesses.  I included a scripture coloring page...I love the part he will "take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people." It seemed so fitting this week and what a wonderful time to teach our children about atonement.

I also included a journal page. This goes with one of the ideas in the manual.  It might be a great way to introduce the topic and help them fully grasp all that our Savior suffered for us and how much he loves us. Kids love to tell stories about themselves haha.  Have them think of a time they were sick or hurt.   Then use these pages to write or draw their story.  After talk about the Atonement.
The last one is a picture and scripture match.  These scriptures are a few things the prophets in the Book of Mormon taught about Christ before he came to Earth.  I am going to place the 4 pictures around the room.  Then we'll draw a scripture and read it.  Then put the scripture by the correct picture.
*Edit: I am sorry if you tried to download this document earlier and could only find the old one.  I have fixed the link and it will now take you to the new printables :)

Additional Ideas-I plan to use a lot of our Easter Activity from last year found here.

You can also use the search bar and find a lot of ideas to use for specific topics like the Resurrection, Atonement, Repentance, and many more.  Let me know if you need help finding some ideas on a topic and I'll link up a few ideas for you :)

Come Follow Me: Matthew 27; Mark 15; Luke 23; John 19 (June 17-23)

This week for Come Follow Me we are covering the trial and Crucifixion of the Savior (Matthew 27Mark 15Luke 23John 19).  My plan for this week is a little different.  I'm not sure if its summer and I'm hoping to do a little activity each day or if its because this can be a hard topic to teach little ones. So this week I have a story with a craft or activity for each topic.  I'm hoping this will help my little ones understand the importance and the difficulty of what Jesus did for us.  As I was studying the thought kept coming to my mind that He really does love me and I'm hoping to get that message across to my kids.  I really want to teach these sad events in a way that is appropriate for their age but also teach them the importance of what happened and that even in these final hours he still showed us the perfect way to live.

There are several videos in the primary manual

The Trial-If you have followed me for a while then you might now how much I love Elder' Uchtdorf's talk "Behold The Man"  At Easter (and next week) I like to share the first part of his talk.  This week we are going to use the part under the title "Do we "Behold the Man?"  He shares the events in a way that's easy to understand and then asks the question do we "behold the man?"  read through until the last 2 paragraphs (they are in bold).  For this part you are going to use the other page as you read this part.  2 ideas-The first is to cut along all the lines and carefully tape to a picture of Jesus.  As you read the lines take the paper off to uncover parts of the picture.  Pull off "behold the man" last to reveal the full picture.  2nd idea- There is an extra page in the download that is blank except for a line that says glue.  In the blank area your kids can draw a picture of a way they can follow the Savior.  Cut the first page along the horizontal lines.  Glue the "behold the man" part to the picture page where it says glue.

The Crucifixion:
Parable of the Push-ups- Start with a push-up contest.  Share the story.  Finish by making or eating donuts.  This is such a great way for kids to visualize the difficulty of the task Jesus faced and he did it for everyone.  It reminds me of quote from Elder Uchtdorf's talk  "He did this for all who believe in Him.  He did this for all who do not believe in Him. He did this even for those who mock, revile, and curse His name."

I remember hearing this book (affiliate link) years ago and purchased it for this week.   It tells the story of Christ's life from the perspective of the 3 trees.  Its a beautiful and sweet story.
In the beginning the 3 trees share their dream or wish of what they want to become.  You can use the page included and let your kids share their wish or dream for the future.  Another idea would be to do a fun tree craft. Maybe this one or this one.

Jesus Forgave-The words for this came from last years primary manual.  This would be a great way to share the scripture story and events.  We are also going to talk about forgiveness this week and this leads in perfectly.  There are small story cards that you can print or you can print the large pages.  Another option would be to save in and show the pages on your computer or phone.

The Pebble of Forgiveness-This is a story from the friends.  Read or summarize.  Try the activity in the story and have everyone place a pebble in their shoe.  Try walking around.  How does it feel?
Another fun activity would be to paint rocks.  Display in a place that they will see them often and be reminded of the importance to forgive others.

Calvin's Awesome Space Jet-This is another story from the friend.  After you read it talk about Calvin's reaction.  Then pull out some blocks or legos and build your own awesome creation!

Come Follow Me: Easter (April 15-21)

This week is all about Easter. There is not a specific set of scriptures for the week and I think we go over many of the suggested scriptures later this year as well.  With that being said I am not diving deep into any particular topic but I hope with the following activities my children (and primary class) will feel the spirit as we talk about our Savior and the precious gifts he gave us.

For our scripture study this week we will be following this awesome outline I found in the Friend.  Each day has a couple of sentences about Jesus's life and a scripture to go along with it.  There is also a song for each day but I ran out of room so I didn't include it in the printable-if you are interested in the songs you can find them in the link to the Friend.

I have two options for this activity.  The first is paper eggs and basket (included in the download at the end of this post).  Print the basket, the eggs, and the 2 pages of quotes (the ones that are vertical).  Cut out the eggs and quotes.  You will not need the numbers above the quotes but they are there as a reference so you can glue the quote to the correct egg.  You can cut out the basket or leave it as is.  Tape the eggs to the basket.  (cut along the top of the basket to tuck them inside) Starting Sunday take off egg #1.  Read the sentences and look up the scripture reference.  Repeat each day ending with egg #8 on Easter Sunday.

The Second option to do this is to use plastic eggs and the full page of quotes (the ones that are horizontal).  Cut the word strips out and place one in each egg numbered 1-8.  There are NOT numbers on this page but they are in order.  So be careful as you place them in eggs to number them correctly.  We are doing ours this way and I made a set for each one of my kids.  There is also a little candy inside the egg.

To set up for this activity I hid all the eggs and we went on an Easter egg hunt.  I didn't worry about the numbers until after all the eggs were found.  We sorted them to make sure every one had eggs numbered 1-8.  I am actually on top of it this week because we did this for Activity Days today and only had 2 girls show up-one being my daughter haha.  So I had quite a few extra.  I originally planned to use just one for my family and have an extra bag of candy so they would all get one each day.

For our craft we are going with the same egg and basket theme.  Print the basket that says "I'm trying to be like Jesus"for each person.  Color the basket.  During the week an egg can be added to their basket as they do different things to follow Jesus this week.  An couple of examples-help mom with an extra chore or play with someone that needs a friend at recess.  They can color the egg and glue it to their paper. (you can cut along the top of the basket to tuck the eggs inside)

Variations-
1.instead of the paper eggs use dot markers to make an egg.
2. make just one for the family instead of individual ones.  At the end of the week share some ways you tried to be like Jesus.
3.  Print the plain black and white basket-instead of adding eggs for acts you do draw a picture on the egg that corresponds with your reading that day or your favorite stories of Jesus.  There are a couple of blank eggs but the back of the decorated eggs would work for pictures.

This week I will be sharing this book I made for my family last year.  It has the words from the General Conference talk Elder Utchdorf gave last year.  I love it.  The words are so powerful.  I do have little kids and I read it to them.  They may not understand all of it but I hope they can feel the spirit as we talk about our Savior and the wonderful gifts he gave us.

Here's a few more pictures
You can find the download for this book here.
We are also going to use these awesome puppets (not sure what to call them) to tell the story of The Atonement, Crucifixion, and Resurrection.  You can find them here.  I also included a smaller set you can use as a coloring page.
The post also contains a game to learn part of the 3rd article of faith, a coloring page, and questions for a game.  You can download all of these here.

Additional ideas:

"Where Justice, Love, and Mercy Meet"  a great video showing a story from one of Elder Holland's talk. It's a good one that I plan to share with my family this week. (Also referenced in the Sunday School Manual)

Gethsemane song: This is one of my favorite Primary songs and a great way to talk about the events of the atonement.  I love this sweet version or this one from lds.org

Easter story from the Friend that is perfect for little ones (found here)

Great video Clip called Because of Him (found here)

(Remember the Book and puppet links are separate and can be found above by their picture).

I have an awesome Bonus for you today!  Heather from My LDS Preschool has kindly offered her R is for Resurrection set free for my readers!  Her activities are so fun and perfect for Come Follow Me this week.
Here's what she has to say about this set:
This week for Come Follow Me we have the special opportunity to reflect on Christ’s life and love as we celebrate His resurrection this Easter.

My LDS Preschool is excited to share part of their curriculum to enhance Come Follow Me this week. In “R is for Resurrection,” you will find free lesson plans and printables which focus on the Savior’s resurrection. While each lesson plan has many resources to combine gospel principles with a preschool curriculum, there are two sections that you will find most appropriate this week.

From Lesson 1 you will find their “Scripture Lesson” which provides an object lesson and helps teach about the resurrection of Jesus with an interactive cut out printable. In lesson 2 you will find their “Storybook Lesson” which tells a delightful story to illustrate the symbol of the Easter lily and what Jesus’ resurrection means for us.

Happy Easter!

These ideas are so fun and I'm excited to share the cute Easter Lily story to my kids.  Did you also see the Resurrection Roll recipe!  Thanks again Heather :)
