So Lucky pillow

We now have a little green in our house. I made this little pillow over the weekend. I drew up my own stitch design (its at the end of the post if any one wants to use it). I made it to fit an 8x10 frame or make a small pillow. I cut out my fabric so it was a little bigger then the pattern. Mine is 11 x 9 inches I then traced the pattern on to the fabric and back stitched all of the words and the stem.

I cut hearts out of green fabric (the same fabric I used for the border and the back of the pillow). I attached with fabric glue and then hand stitched around each heart.

For the pillow:-I made this up as I went and forgot to take some pictures so please ask if something doesn't make sense.

I cut out 4 strips (2 from each color) for the border around my pillow. They are 2.5 inches thick and 2.5 inches longer then my stitched fabric (13.5 inches).

I pinned the top border piece and my fabric right sides together lining up one of the corners. I then stitched starting from the corner almost to the end of my fabric (you want to leave enough room to add the final side. Open it up and it will look like this.

Pin your side piece (fabrics right side together) It should line up the the top of the border and the bottom edge of your stitched fabric. Sew together. continue your border (don't forget to finish the top piece) Refer to the picture below for a better explanation. It should look like this when you're done.You can iron all of your seams but I didn't because I was too lazy. Cut out a piece of patterned fabric the same size as your pillow top. Pin right sides together and sew around the edges leaving an opening to flip.

I used Craftaholics Anonymous' idea and stuffed it with plastic sacks. Then stitched it shut.

XO pillow

I fell in love with this pillow from Pottery Barn. I thought it was such a cute Valentines idea and decided to make my own. I made it in colors that would match Aubrey's room so we can leave it out all year.

Here's how I made mine:
I cut out two pieces of fabric to the size I wanted my pillow
I traced my letters on the paper side of freezer paper. I cut out the letters (The part you want painted). Leave plenty of paper around the outside to help prevent stray paint. Lay the wax side down on your fabric and iron over it will a warm iron (I had my set to a medium temperature and it worked well)

Paint your letters. The freezer paper acts as a stencil.

Once its dry remove your freezer paper.

Pin and sew your ribbon on.

Pin your fabrics right sides together and sew. I curved my corners. Leave an opening to flip.

Pull your pillow right side out. Stuff and sew up the opening.

This one is pretty big. It would also be cute to make two matching ones (like pottery barn) or make just one that says XOXO. I like this one and want to make another one to match if I have time (maybe with colors reversed).

For my little Rock Star

This idea came from Aubrey asking me to make her a guitar everynight for several months. I finally came up with this pillow idea. I think it turned out cute but there are a few things I would change for next time (and yes there is going to be a next time). I also added loops to attach a ribbon so she can also play with it but it comes off when she is sleeping (don't want it to be a choking hazzard). Aubrey said "I love it. Its my favorite." ...she says that about everything:) I really need to make some pillows for her new bed and I think this will be a cute addition to the pile I'm envisioning.

Placemat makeover

This was seriously a super easy project and I love the results.

I ran across this placemat in Target and knew I had to have it. There was only one so I thought I could use if for a purse of something. When I got home I just couldn't cut it and I didn't want to interrupt the design because I love it to much.

So I ripped out some of the seam and stuffed it. I then sewed it back up. Luckily the entire thing is all top stitched so you can't even tell.

I have a few more placemats waiting for a makeover-maybe they will also become pillows.
