Super Hero training day

We had a fun day (well couple of days) training to be a super hero!
We worked on our throwing skills (like Captain America of course).  We tried throwing the Frisbee as far as we could and the practiced accuracy by seeing who could get the closest to a target.
We strengthened our lungs by blowing lots of bubbles.

We worked on our quickness, balance and strength with balloons.  First game the girls had to keep the balloon in the air but had to alternate turns.  We then made it harder by saying you can only use your foot, or your head.  After they tested their strength to see if they could pop the balloons.
A few days later they tested their speed and flying abilities on the slip n' slide.

We also build special hero cars out of legos (not sure what to call them).

Finally every super hero needs a mask.  We used the free template from here.  The girls decorated them however they wanted.  We used felt, markers, and hot glue.  The mask helps with your cool tricks and moves.

We finished up with some super hero movies of course!

You can find some more fun super hero ideas on my Letter S pinterest board.

Meet Tinkerbell

okay well the little doll inspired by Tinkerbell.
I used the black apple template to make most of this doll.  But changed the hair, added a skirt, and wings.
The directions to make most of the doll are also found here but I am showing you how I made it with the few extra steps I took.
1. Sew the hair to the face.  2. Sew the face to the body.  3. Sew the skirt on.
1. Sew the hair to the body.  2. Pin and sew wings down the center.
1. Paint face and shoes.
(Forgot to take pictures of the rest but you can find the instructions here if you have any questions)
1.  sew legs and arms.  2. Stuff.  3. Pin legs and arms and body right sides together.  4. Sew along the edge (leave an opening).  5. Turn and stuff.  6. sew up opening.

This is one of Livy's birthday presents.  She saw it when I snuck outside to take pictures.  She is in love and can't wait for her birthday so she can have her Tinkerbell.

Baby Bassinet

*Kitty Cats and Airplane giveaway ends at Midnight so hurry and enter!*

I'm back and so excited to be home.  I have a ton of cleaning and unpacking but after 3 weeks of being lazy I'm excited to get to work.  First I thought I would drop in and show you Livy's Christmas present I finished  around 2 a.m the morning we left on our vacation.  I used this tutorial.  It was fairly easy to make except the final step took me a lot longer then I thought it would.  Livy LOVES it and not only uses it to carry her baby but also everything else she can get a hold of.  On Christmas she carried it around house to house with it stuff full of her doll, a baby bottle, and candy.

What presents were your kids most excited about?

Super easy Superhero Cape

My 5 year old LOVES to dress up like a hero.  You should see some of the crazy outfits she comes up with.  I love it.  Well it came as no surprise that she wanted to be a super hero for Halloween this year.  I was completely on board because I knew this costume would be used ALL YEAR.  This would be a great Christmas present for your little hero.

To make one you need a large t-shirt (I used a men's XXXL- it was on sale.)  Some felt for fabric for the applique, Velcro, and a button (optional)

Lay your shirt flat and with a yard stick draw a line from the color to the bottom corner of the shirt.  Cut along that line and to the same on the other side.  (only cut through one side of the shirt-the other side can be use for another cape or a different project)
For the neck you can keep the entire existing collar and just slip in over their head or if its too big you can cut your own.  Use the collar as the basic shape but cut down far enough so your two ends will reach comfortably around your little ones neck.
Pin and sew Velcro the ends of each side.  If you don't want your Velcro stitching to show sew a button directly on top of the Velcro stitching so you see a cute button instead.
For the applique.  Cut out what ever design you want.  Felt is great because it won't fray.

Pin your design on your cape and sew in place.  If you are using fabric a zigzag stitch will help with fraying.

Now try it on your little one and watch their imagination run wild.

I'll show you a quick way to make the hero shirt and mask soon.
