I am Wise When I Choose the Right (Lesson 36, Primary 2)

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week.  I have some fun Lesson Helps for you this week.  They go right along with lesson 36, I am wise when I choose the right.  You can find the lesson here.  You can find all these printables in one download free at the end of this post. Just a heads up I included a black and white option for 2 of the activities...sometimes you just need to save on ink.  So when you download and print make sure you are only selecting the pages you need and don't end up with two copies of those activities.  Also if you have any questions about an activity (I'm not sure if I explained one very well this week), ever have trouble downloading any of my documents, or have some lesson help requests please let me know :)  I hope you find something that is helpful for your class this week.

2 Signs.  Print and attach to a Popsicle stick (optional)  You can use these through out the lesson.  Introduce at the end of the attention activity.  Hold up the correct sign as you share the story about Harry.  You can also use them during the game below or if you choose to do the game described in the lesson these work for that as well.

Interactive Scripture Story Cards.  Print the 2 page that say wise man and foolish man.  Also print the pages with the 2 houses and the rain. Cut the houses and rain out.  (Available in color and black and white in case you want to save some ink!  Print what you need :)

You can use these a couple of different ways.  Easiest put the two Wise/foolish pages on the board and add the pieces of the story with magnets or tape.    Another fun idea would be to add popcicle sticks to the houses and the rain.  Cut a small slit under the wise man to slide his house in place-you want it kind of snug.  Cut a larger hole under the foolish man to slide his house in place.  You can either tip his house over or make the hole big enough that it will slide right through.
I haven't printed mine yet but let me give you a quick visual so you know what I'm talking about :)

You'll have 2 pages that look like this (the other says foolish man).  Leave these as they are except the for the hole you cut below each person (optional!)

As you tell the story place the house directly over each person.  Again this can either be taped directly on or use the Popsicle stick method.  Then the rain comes.  Hold above or tape to your board. This house stays still

The foolish man's house will either tip over and look like this when you are done or if you decide to make the hole big enough for it to slide though it will completely disappear.
Hope that helps but use however you want!

For the Activity section I decided to make a board game instead of drawing cards this week. Print the board game, print and assemble the dice (or bring your own), bring playing pieces for each team.
Divide into teams and take turns rolling the dice.  The first team to make it through wins.  (These are the same scenarios suggested in the lesson.)  You can decide if you want to just play through of if there will be a reward or consequence for different choices.  For example on a foolish choice you must go back one space.  You can also have the team hold up the signs from above to let you know if they think its a wise of foolish choice.

Wise Man Review Game: Goes with Enrichment activity #1 and review discussion in the lesson.  Print the Wise Men, Camels, and review questions.  Cut all of them out.  Glue the review questions to the back of the wise men and camels.  Before class hide these around the room.  Follow enrichment suggestion and talk about the 3 wise men.  Then have your class hunt for the wise men and their camels.  As each one is found read and answer the question on the back.  (These are available in color and black and white! Just print what you need)

Coloring page: Goes with Enrichment activity #2

For the 3rd Enrichment activity you can use the houses above instead of building blocks.  If using water you might want to laminate them if you want to reuse them later.

Apple Tree Counting Mat

*this post contain affiliate links*

We are working on all things apple and letter A.  My kids had so much fun with the coconut tree counting mat that I thought we would carry that activity over and use apples instead.

They love these counting mats! I love that they are learning to recognize their numbers, count, 1 to 1 correspondence, and work on their fine motor skills.

For this activity your little one is going to place the correct number of apples in the tree aka yellow, red, or green pompoms or you can roll up some playdough to make apples.
Draw a card and place it in the box.  Using tongs or hands place the correct number of apples on the tree.  Tongs are an awesome way to develop those fine motor skills.

The free download includes one apple tree mat and cards from 0-20.

Download your copy here.

You can find our Coconut Counting Mat here and more apple themed activities here.

Honesty FHE idea (Apple theme) & Applesauce Cookies

For Family Home Evening we are talking about honesty.  I have included some free printables to help out with the lesson.  You can find them below.

Story cards that go with this story

Game: We are using this fun "Pinocchio" inspired game to learn a little more about honestly.  This game was included in this primary lesson post (lots of honesty activities included) .  My class had so much fun that I wanted to use it with my kids.

Print the 2 board games (the girl and boy) and situation cards. Cut the cards mix them up. I'm going to toss them in a brown paper bag.  You will also need blocks, legos, or something you can stack.
Briefly tell the story of Pinocchio and that when he told a lie his nose would grow.  Divide into two groups and give one board to each team.  Take turns drawing a card.  Read the situation.  If the child was dishonest add a block where the nose would be.  If the child was honest take a block away.  Keep going until either a certain number of questions have been asked, a set time period, or you run out of blocks haha.  The team with the smallest nose wins!

For the treat how about delicious Applesauce Cookies.  These tasty cookies are a family favorite and make a fun treat to go along with the story.

2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 cup shorting
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup applesauce
1 tsp baking soda

Mix all ingredients.  Bake @425 degrees for 8-10 minutes

A is for Apple Free Tracer Page

I have a cute freebie for you today.  This page is perfect for practicing writing the letter A.  It goes perfect with an apple theme or any time you need some writing practice.  It's also a fun coloring page.  You can have your kids rainbow write the letters on top or just color them.

You can find more apple and letter A activities here.

Adorable Graphics and Fonts used with permison from Kimberly Geswein Fonts & Jen Hart Design.

I have talents (primary 2, lesson 35)

Here are some fun free lesson helps for Lesson 35 I have talents.  These go right along with the lesson that you can find here.

This goes with the first activity.  Print and cut out the board (Our class has talents) and the stars on the next page.  Ask parents to share a few of their child's talents.  Write each child's name and talents on a star.  During class play the game "I'm thinking of someone..." Once the children guess the right person add the star to the board.  Let the kids take their star home with them at the end of class.

Scripture Story- The printable has 2 pages (one with the 3 men, and the other with the talents/money).  Cut the money out ahead of time-you do not need to cut the men apart.  As you tell the story place the appropriate number of talents under each person.  This is especially helpful for little ones to see it multiply!

Story cards for Heber J. Grant story.  Print and cut apart.

Coloring page-Have the kids draw a picture of one of their talents.  (This goes along with the last activity in the lesson.)

Coloring page for enrichment activity 2.  I know there is a star included in the lesson but I just can't help myself.

If you have any trouble downloading these files please let me know :)

Always Tell the Truth (Lesson 34, Primary 2) Free Lesson Helps

I have to admit after my class last Sunday I was feeling a little defeated.  I teach the 7 and 8 year old and oh boy they must have eaten 5 bags of candy before they came to class.  Luckily our game went over well and I felt like did actually learn something.  Do any of you have any reverence tips?  Please share!

This week's lesson helps are for Lesson 34 Always Tell the Truth (CTR primary 2). These ideas go right along with the lesson that you can find here.  You can find the Free download at the end of this post.

The first one is an adorable fishing activity.  After you tell the story about Mary-Anne play a fun fishing game.  Go fishing for letter to a special word.  Have the kids take turns catching a fish.  Once all the fish are caught put in order to honesty.  You can also write the story questions on the back of the fish and answer as you go..  I use paper clips or bobby pins on the fish and for the pole a wooden dowel, some string, and 2 strong button magnets.  I actually just sandwich the string between the magnets but you can hot glue them together to make it a little sturdier.

Articles of Faith poster.  Display as your practice repeating the phrase.

CTR Chart to display

Game Section: I included cards with the different scenarios (print and cut apart) but decided to use them with enrichment activity 4 instead of the suggested game.  It's time to put on a show.  Depending on the age and size of you class split into groups or work as a whole class.  Pass out the cards to each group.  Have them read the situation, decide on actors for each part, and the conclusion by answering the question.  When it's time to perform use the cute clapper board and say action!  Let the group perform while the rest of the class watches the show :)  I included all 5 scenarios use them all or just pick a couple depending on how much time you want to use.

I included 2 clapper boards.  I strongly suggest printing on cardstock.  One is big and the top piece moves!  It's pretty fun.  It's printed on 2 pages and connected with a brad.  The second one is smaller and ready to go.  It doesn't move but it will still be fun to use.

I love the other enrichment ideas-This blog has some cute helps for 2 & 3

I decided to add another game this week. This game teaches that being honest isn't just about telling the truth.
Before class print the 2 board games (the girl and boy) and situation cards.
Keep going until either a certain number of questions have been asked, or you run out of blocks haha.  The team with the smallest nose wins!

And I also included some coloring pages.  Sometimes you just need something to keep those little hands busy :)  There's a girl and boy option.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Beach theme

This post contains affiliate links. That means if you use my link, I make a small commission at no extra cost to you. As always, thank you for your support.

We kicked our home preschool year off last week with the awesome book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" and  beach theme.  I love starting with this book as an introduction or review (depending on age) of the alphabet.  It helps me see what my kids know and what we need to work on.
I'm going to try sharing our lesson plan with you each week.  I'll be honest I seem to over schedule and some times inspiration hits mid lesson so we don't always follow it exactly.  Right now I'm just trying to figure out what works best for us.  Also I have the sweetest little baby that thinks sleeping isn't really a priority and so we work around her mood as well:)  This week's lesson plan actually took us more like two weeks-due to the sweet baby mentioned.  Not a big deal that is one of the great things about teaching my kids at home we can go at our own pace.    You can use our schedule as a basic outline or pick and choose what works for you :)  I'm including my plan and a blank lesson plan.
Download them Here
(I can't figure out how to take off the 2nd page-use it as extra space for notes or skip printing it :)

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom,
When a Dragon Moves in, and There was an Old Lady that Swallowed a Shell.

Songs:
ABC song ( a few different versions) with our flash cards
FREE Printables found here.
5 little Monkey's swinging in a tree
5 little sand castles  & Waves at the Beach (printable included in the download below)

Free Packet
I created some fun learning games and worksheets for this weeks theme.  You can download them free below. Here's what's included.

Beach Number Hunt: Print the number cards and the I spy page.  Laminate if possible.  Cut the cards apart and hide them around the room.  Let your little ones find them then locate on the "I spy page" page.  Cross them off.  You can also use the cards to for other games such as putting them in numerical order or print off two of the card page and use as a match game.

Coconut Shake-The idea for this game came from here.  Hers is adorable but made out of scrapbook paper.  I decided to recreate the game digitally so it was easy to print.
Here's how to play: Print out the board games (one per person) and the page of letters.  There are a few "chicka chicka boom boom" circles as well.  Cut out letter and ccbb cirlces and place in a bag.  Take turns drawing one of the circles.  If its a letter-say the name.  If correct place on your tree.  If incorrect place it back in the bag.  If you get a "chicka chicka boom boom" Shake all the letters off your tree.  We set them to the side and not back in the bag.  It was a lot of fun and one we played multiple times.  I'm also keeping it out to use off and on through out the school year for practice.

Letter match (found in the download)-Print and cover the letters with the matching letter sticker.
counting mat

Counting Mats-You can find our original post on this here.  It was a favorite again!

color matching game: I recommend printing on cardstock

Monkey's in a tree file folder game-Anotehr fun way to practice colors.  Print out the 2 pages of trees.  Glue to the inside of a file folder or laminate.  cut out the monkeys and laminate.  You can add velcro or magnets.  Match the color of the monkey's coconut to the tree with the same color of leaves.

Chicka Treasure Hunt-I found the idea for a treasure hunt in this post (so many awesome ideas!).  It was made for a school setting so I changed some words to fit a "home" preschool and created some cute cards to use for our treasure hunt.  I hid a little treat by our ccbb book.

Crafts:
Coconut Tree Letter Craft: This is a simple craft that teaches cutting and gluing skills.  I had the main pieces cut out. I had them cut the little fringes around the edges of the leafs.  Then had them glue everything in place.  Then use letter stickers to "climb the coconut tree."
Decorate a Letter-Print a letter from here.  We went with the first letter of their name.  Use paint, crayons, paper, glue, feathers, etc.
Tree Hat-Idea from here.

Seashell Craft-idea from here.

Rocking Crab-Idea from here.  We did simplify ours by using paper for the pinchers, legs, and eyes.  I love how the rock!  Such a fun and cute activity.

puffy paint star fish- idea from here.  We went with her suggestion and added a little more shaving cream.  We also used glitter instead of pasta.

Other Activities:
Build a sand castle:  We used this Kenetic Sand .  It does not come with a lot of sand but it was enough for my two kids and they LOVED the toys it came with.  I'll be adding this bag to our collection and is perfect if you want just a lot of sand.  We've used similar products and this one was not real messy and it was super easy to clean up.

Puzzles- I pulled out anything Alphabet and beach.  I was lucky to have a couple of cute Melissa and Doug ones and another I found at the dollar store a while ago.

Watched this video on youtube

We played ring a round the rosie but substituted the words.  We would sing part of the ABC's then yell chicka chicka boom boom.  On the last boom we would fall down.  (we did A-G, H-P, Q-Z)  It was a big hit.
Practice Rhythmn-  slap (hit knees), slap, clap, clap or slap, clap, slap, clap.  increase and decrees speed.  We said chicka chicka boom boom over and over.

Interactive Tree from (Mother's Hubbard)-Free Pintable here.  (Its under Day 4).  Used while reading the story.

Counting Coconuts Book also from Mother's Hubbard-found here (towards the bottom under math).  We used our fingerprints to make the coconuts

Letter Writting in sand-We tried the kenetic sand...it worked okay but next I'll buy real sand.

ABC bingo-found here

Beach Party-wrap up the theme with a party.  We read books and watched Moana on a beach towel.  We decorated Alphabet sugar cookies (recipie and cookie cutters), played with a beach ball, and beach Simon says (ex. Simon says walk like a crab, move slow like a turtle, surf on a wave, etc.). And we went to a beach!

Dragon at the Beach-Play don't eat pete:  While reading this adorable book I remembered our fun dragon "Don't eat Pete" game. It was for the movie Pete's Dragon but works. You can find it here.  My kids LOVE this game.
